Samsung launches the long-awaited GALAXY Tab 10.1

SYDNEY, December 9, 2011 – Samsung Electronics Australia, a leader in Android™ mobile devices, today announced the launch of the next evolution of GALAXY Tab – the GALAXY Tab 10.1. A stunningly slim and light tablet featuring Samsung’s customised Android ™ 3.1 (Honeycomb) platform, the GALAXY Tab 10.1 offers an advanced entertainment, business and e-learning experience.

The GALAXY Tab 10.1 will be available in time for the Christmas shopping period from leading retailers including Harvey Norman, JB Hifi, Good Guys, Myer, Bing Lee and Office Works with an RRP of $579 (16GB WiFi variant) and a RRP of $729 (16GB 3G variant).

Unlocking the future of education

To celebrate the launch of the GALAXY Tab 10.1, Samsung and Blake eLearning have partnered to offer an exclusive pre-loaded content deal giving users access to its popular educational module, ABC Reading Eggs, a tactile learning experience app for young children1 which heightens the speed with which they can learn.

The GALAXY Tab 10.1 is incredibly thin and light, weighing in at just 565 grams with a width of 8.66mm. Combined with its ultra-thin form factor and lightweight design, the GALAXY Tab 10.1 presents an outstanding mobile ‘lean-back entertainment’ device.

The GALAXY Tab 10.1 features a 3-Megapixel rear camera and a 2-Megapixel front camera, providing smooth transition and seamless 1080p HD video and Flash playback for a rich entertainment experience.

Samsung Music Hub is a subscription based service that ‘streams’ music, via Samsung Apps, directly to a multitude of Samsung devices1 across five different platforms at a monthly cost less than the price of an average album on CD2.

The service provides consumers with unlimited access to millions of songs from all four major music labels and various independents and, on Samsung 2011 Smart Audio Visual devices like the GALAXY Tab 10.1, to over ten thousand music videos from all four major record labels. The Music Hub is available on the GALAXY Tab 10.1 for a one month free trial.

Magshop Digital Newsstand app – content by ACP Magazines

Get Australia’s leading magazines through the Magshop Digital Newsstand app, featuring the largest array of Aussie magazines in the app marketplace. The app features digital versions of over 52 titles across the widest variety of interest areas. Users can download the app for free, and browse four free sample magazines of their choice from a selected range.

Customised user experience with “Samsung TouchWiz UX”

The GALAXY Tab 10.1 features Samsung’s proprietary TouchWiz user interface implemented on the Android™ 3.1 platform, offering superior multi-tasking and enhanced user interaction and navigation

Samsung’s TouchWiz user experience is designed with a Live Panel menu allowing users to customise to display a variety of content on the home screen including digital pictures, favourite websites and social network feeds.

In addition, the interface includes a convenient and flexible app dock called Mini Apps Tray, where commonly used features such as task manager, calendar and music player can be housed while other major applications are in use.
